    BIOGRAPHY OF ABU HURAYRAH
    WHO IS ABU HURAYROH?
    • He is the honourable companion, May Allah be pleased with him. Before embracing Islam, his name was Abd Shams (Slave of the sun).
    • He was later named Abdul Rahman (Slave of the most-Merciful) by the prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and he was nicknamed Abu Hurayrah (the father of a kitten) though there was a humorous reason behind the nickname.
    HIS BIRTH
    • Abu Hurayrah was born in the tribe of Daws, an Arabian tribe in the year 603-681.He converted to Islam in the year of conquering Khaybar in 7 A.H. after embracing Islam.
    • He was born in Baha, Yemen into the Banu Daws tribe from the region of Tihamiya. His father had died leaving him with only his mother and no other relatives.
    CONVERT OF HIS MOTHER TO ISLAM
    • Abu Hurayrah, May Allah be pleased with him, tried many times to invite his mother to Islam, but she refused.
    • One day he invited her to Islam, but she refused and said bad words about the prophet (SAW). Consequently, Abu Hurayrah went to the prophet weeping and reporting about her mother.
    • The prophet supplicated Allah to guide the mother of Abu Hurayrah to the right path. Later when Abu Hurayrah returned home, Allah(SWT) answered the prayer and his mother accepted Islam.
    HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO ISLAM
    • He used to accompany the prophet (s.a.w) and sit with him for long periods of time for learning.
    • Abu Hurayrah used to like fighting in the cause of Allah. He joined batttles and accompanied the prophet (S.A.W).
    • Compared to other companions, Abu Hurayrah memorized the highest number of narrated Hadeeths from the prophet. One of the companions said about him, “Abu Hurayrah narrated a lot of Hadeeths and the Muhajiroon and Ansar did not narrate like him.”
    • He said that he witnessed any situation if they were absent and memorized if they forget’.
    • Ash-Shaafi’i, May Allah have mercy on him said about him. ‘He was the one who memorized the most Hadeeth in his life time’.
    • Abu Hurayrah also said ‘no one knows the Hadeeths of the prophet more than me except Abdullah Ibn Amr, for he used to write them and I did not.’
    HIS LIFESTYLE
    • Abu Hurayrah was extremely poor and used to tie a stone on his stomach due to extreme hunger.
    • Allah the Almighty honoured Abu Hurayrah because of his faith and sincerity to Him and His messenger.
    • He married to the lady whom he used to work for before he accepted Islam.

    • During the Caliphate of Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was appointed as a ruler of Bahrain. He was also the vice-ruler of Al-Madeenah when Marawaan ibn Al-Hakam was the ruler.
    • He did not seek in the worldly life anything but the pleasure of Allah and the love of His Muslim slaves until his death When he was dying, he cried of longing for his lord. He died in 59 A.H. while some said 57A.H. and his age was 78 years.
    • He was buried at AL-Baqee‘ after spreading knowledge throughout the land and narrating more than 5000 Hadeeths.
    • Abu Hurayrah had made great impact in the collection of hadith, May Allah be pleased with him.
