SOUNDNESS/VALIDITY OF AN ARGUMENT
As we have understood the meaning of Argument. Now we went to look different between the soundness and validity.
An argument can be justified with its soundness and validity. For any argument to be valid and sound, it needs to fulfill the following conditions.
1. The reasons brought forward to support the claim must be true.
2. The connection of the conclusion to reasons ought to be logical and valid.
Taking an argument into consideration
Muslims are terrorists
Abdullah is a Muslim
Therefore, Abdullah is a terrorist
For an argument to be sound and valid, we will have to consider its premises before arguing with the conclusion.
The structure of the argument is valid, so therefore we can say that the relationship between the reason and the conclusion is logically valid. However, the truth value of the premise is questionable at least by Muslims who refuse to be portrayed as terrorist. Therefore, this argument is valid but not sound.
