HADITH
Hadith can be defined as the saying, deeds and reactions of Prophet Muhammad [SAW] to other actions which was performed by sahabah and he did not condemned. Sunnah is said to be the way and practice of the prophet [S.A.W] Literally,sunnah means a ‘clear path’ it is referred to as the practice and teaching of the prophet.
EVOLUTION OF HADITH AND SUNNAH
Hadith evolved during the life time of the prophet through his saying and actions. It is an important element in Islam which a Muslim must take into consideration before putting into any form of worship. Muslim will be incomplete when he neglect the saying and practice of the prophet and rely only on the Quran as the basis. The prophet will not perform any action or say any word except that which was revealed to him by Allah(S.W.T), so whatever the prophet bring for us we should accept it and whatever he avoid you from, make sure you abstain from such act.
In Quran 35:43 Allah says “then can they expect anything else but the sunnah [way of dealing] of the people of old, so no change will you find in Allah’s sunnah [way of dealing] and no turning will you find in Allah’s sunnah”.
There are two forms of hadith in Islam
1) Hadith nawawiyy; this is the word that come directly from the prophet (Lafsan wa ma’anah)
2) Hadith Qudus ;- This is the word that was said prophet and the meaning was revelateded from Allah (S.W.T).
Difference between Hadith Nawawiy and Qudus
Hadith Nawawiyy and Qudus are both relevant in the jurisprudence of Islam, none of these two should be neglected. It should be known that reading the Hadith attract no reward compared to reading Al-Qur’an but you will be rewarded provided these sayings are put into actions. This is the reason why a Muslim should practice the Sunnah of the prophet without giving preference for any of the hadith or Sunnah; rather he should do justice on all the Hadith.
DEFENDING THE SUNNAH
WHY SHOULD WE?
We should defend the sunnah because It is part and parcel of our religion it means the failure to defend the sunnah is tantamount to the failure to defend to defend the sunnah is tantamount to defending our religion Islam .On the other hand talking of Islam as a religion, we cannot refer to it as a complete one without the sunnah.
HOW SHOULD WE?
There is no way to defend the Sunnah other than to understand the Sunnah.
Firstly, there is a quotation which says, ‘He who does not have cannot give’.
Secondly, to practice it, because it is not good psychologically to defend something and at the same time against it.
Thirdly, by teaching others the Sunnah the prophet S.A.W said “Balig ani walau ayatan; meaning: Tell about me even if only a word”. In this sense, we cannot defend the Sunnah if we fail to teach it. This is the reason why we must memorize the hadith. For you to have memorized a hadith and see somebody misquoting it, you will be able through the fact at your disposal to correct and direct to the straight path.
WHEN SHOULD WE
It is an obligation on every Muslim who has the better understanding of sunnah when he sees somebody else fighting the sunnah, this may come in many way such as misquoting the sunnah, misinterpreting it or underrating it. In a situation like this, a practicing Muslim must come to the person aid.
CHANGES THAT ISLAM BROUGHT TO THE ARAB SOCIETY
Coming into existence of Islam brought about making the arab to become monotheist after being polytheist, it also change their thinking faculties, as we can see in their historical background that they extremely underrate the female. Female has no value in the society which led them to bury their female child alive considering her as a part of inheritance. This great mistake has been corrected through the advent of Islam and invariably change the Arabs from the attributes of animals to real man attributes.
