Beginning of Dating System in Islam
The system of dating in Islam was introduced by Seyyidina Umar after the death of prophet (S.A.W.), it is referred to as the Hijrah dating system. The migration of prophet from Mecca to Medinah in 622C.E. marked the transformation from Akhbar to Tareekh i.e. an act of assigning date as a measure of an historical event.
The battles (Maghazi) of the prophet (S.A.W.) is classified into two namely: Hadith and Taareekh.
Since the Prophet (S.A.W.) was regarded as Qudwah (Role Model), efforts were made to document his way of life administratively, politically, economically, spiritually, morally, religiously, as well as the battle (Maghazi) fought by him.
The 1st person to document the battle of the prophet (S.A.W.) was Urwat Ibn Zubayr. The Islamic oriented and tribal oriented are the two perspectives in narratives development.
