THE VIRTUES OF ADHERING TO THE SUNNAH AND THE CONSEQUENCES
Sunnah is the regarded as the second source of Islamic laws after the glorious Qur’an. This implies that whatever we can’t find in the Quran we should source for it from the Hadith of the prophet [SAW]. For instance the time of Salat is not mentioned in the Quran but it was mention in the hadith, so if we want to live a successful life, we must imitate the habit of the noblest of mankind prophet Muhammad [S.A.W]. The prophet was reported to have said have been given the Qur’an and beside it something similar to it [Abu Dawud Kitab of Sunnah chp 6]. We also take note that the opinion of the scholars is also important in Islam, when the hadiths are said to have different chain of narrators, it is the scholars that have the right to reach consensus on which chain that is sahih before it can be implemented in the shariah [Islamic law]. It is imperative on every Muslim to work according to the Sunnah, rely on it and use it as evidence if the hadith is proved authentic. There are some Islamic sects who claim to be more extremist, so they violate the Sunnah of the prophet and use their own basic knowledge to worship Allah. Some of these sects include kharajite, Quraniyah, Rofidoh, Shee'ah etc. they are said to have turn back to Islam cursing the khulafahi Rashideen Al-mahadiyeen, these group have nothing to contribute to Islam but fallacy so their ways should not be follow. Allah [S.W.T] says that whoever follow the prophet as indeed follow Allah. He commands us to obey messenger and follow the revelation that he brings. As a Muslim, we must follow the Sunnah of the prophet [S.A.W.] so that we can be more rewarded.
