CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD WIEW
It is necessary to know how Islam perceived the world. Since the Islamic world view signifies the lens through which Islam perceives this world, it is therefore necessary to know what this lens (Din’s lens) is.
The Din’s Lens
Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) mentioned the major characteristics of the din in a Hadith commonly referred to as ‘Hadith Jibril’. These characteristics are:
- Islam
- Iman
- Ihsan
The prophet (s.a.w) explain Islam as an open deed or statement which is divided into two; physical deeds, wealth and both. Physical deeds are daily prayers and fasting while that wealth is regarded as Zakat. The one that comprises of both wealth and physical deed is Hajj. Whoever fulfills the 5 pillars of Islam is qualified to be a practicing Muslim. But whoever belief in Kalimotu taoheed (Laillaha illa Allahu Muhammad Rasulullah), but did not observe Salah and also neglect some part of the pillars of Islam, we will only regard him as a Muslim, it is a duty on him to practice Islam so as to become a Muhmin. Whoever that did not believe in Kalimotu Taoheed has denied Islam and such person will be considered as a Kafir.
Iman is believeng in Allah, saying what we believe and putting it in action. We should also believe in the 6 articles of faith. Believe in Allah, His angels, books, prophets, last day, and destiny either good or bad. While Ihsan is doing goods, i.e. worshipping Allah as if you see Him, even though you don’t see him Allah surely sees you.
