    Imam Malik
Imam Malik was the second great Imam. His name is Abu Abdullah Malik ibn Anas ibn Malik bn Abi Amir bn Amir Ibnul-Harith ibn Ghaiman ibn Khuthail bn Amir bnul-Haarith. Imam Malik was born in Madinah in 93A.H (713A.C). His famous family was originated from the al-asbah tribe of Yemen, but his great grandfather Abu ‘Amir resituated the family to Madinah after converting to Islam in the second year of the Hijri or 623. According to his book Al-Muwatta, he was tall with white hair and beard but bold with a huge beard & blue eyes. Living in Madinah gave him access to some of the most learned minds of early Islam. He memorized the Qur’an in his youth learning recitation from Abu Suhail Nafi bn Abdur-Rahmon from whom he also received his certification and permission to teach others. He studied under numerous scholars many of whom had themselves studied under the companions of the prophets, the teachers of Imam Malik are Muhammad bn Ishaq Azuury, Yahya bn Saheed Al-ansori and Nafi’i the servant of Abdullah bn Umar (R.A) along with Abu Hanifah. Student of Imam Malik like Imam Shafihi, Ibn Dinaar and ibn Ishaam. He also had some of his colleagues that later studied under him, they are Sufyan Athauwri and Sufyan bn Uyainah. He studied law & fiqh and wrote the books( Muwatta and Munawara). The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in one hadith authenticated by Muhammad bn “Isa at-Tirmidhi: “Very soon will people beat the flanks of Camels in search of knowledge, and they shall find no-one more knowledgeable than the knowledgeable scholar of Madinah”. Qadi Ayyad, and others related from Sufyan bn Uyaynah and others that they considered Imam Malik bn Anas as the scholar the hadith was referring to. Imam Malik died at the age of 84 in Madinah in 795 and was buried in the famous Jannat ul-baqi cementary.
