HARDWARE BASICS (PERIPHERAL)
Peripherals are the external devices that are attached to the system unit of the computer. They are mainly input and output devices e.g. keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner etc.
INPUT DEVICES
Input devices are used to enter data or instruction into a computer. Examples are:
• Mouse and keyboard
• Digital camera and digital video camera
• Biometric authentication device
• Touch screen
• Scanner
OUTPUT DEVICES
These are the medium through which the computer communicate, the result of processing data i.e. information to the users. Examples are monitor, printers, speakers and projector.
CATEGORIES OF KEYBOARD
• Alphanumeric keys (A-Z and 0-9)
• Navigation key e.g. page up, page down, home, end etc.
• Functions key e.g. F1-F12
• Special keys e.g. ctrl, shift, enter, space etc.
MONITOR AND PROJECTORS
The most importance difference between monitor types is the technology used to create an image: Cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor is the most common monitor type, most television also use this technology. Liquid crystal display ( LCD) is commonly used in laptops and some projectors. LCD comes in two forms namely:
1. Active matrix
2. Passive matrix
Digital light processing (DLP) is another technology used in projectors.

Scanners
Fax
Machines printers are output devices that create hard copies of computer files. Other all in one type printer are designed to provide multiple services such as printing, fax, copier functions.
Printer produces paper copies of electronic files. Hard copy of computer document remain important today. Scanners allow users to concert paper document into electronic files.

Computer technician should know how to purchase, repair or maintain a printer.

Laser printer: It is the using of electro-photographic technology
Inkjet printer: It is the using of electrostatic spray technology
Dot matrix printer: It is the using of impact technology used in applications that requires multiple “carbon” copies.
